Welcome To The Riverside Inn, Aymestrey

Fish Supper at The Riverside Inn

The Riverside Inn is situated deep in the heart of Herefordshire countryside just on the southern edge of the Mortimer Forest, yet still close to Ludlow and Hereford.

Authentic and atmospheric, the 16th century black and white building is surrounded by the natural beauty of the River Lugg valley. A small and lovely village with lovely people completes the setting.

Hopefully we will surprise you with our food. Classic flavours in a country style with original touches that make quite a difference, cooked by our team of chefs, Andrew (Head Chef), Shaefn and Robin.

The bar and restaurant have been deliberately kept in a traditional style – log fires, candles, hops and oak beams, bricks and stone. There is plenty of space by the river or in the terrace garden to eat when the weather allows. Ales are from Cleobury Mortimer, cider from Tenbury Wells

Accommodation is provided, all rooms are individually furnished, one has the friendly resident ghost – the lady from the river. Dogs are welcome – let us know they are coming. The Hayloft suite overlooks the river and opens out onto the terrace garden, the Stable suite gives out onto the river bank at ground floor level – especially convenient for guests with dogs.

We are really lucky to have and use a large kitchen garden – we practice from “seed to plate”. We have our own bees and last year substantially extended the orchards and introduced perennial crops. Lot’s to see – guests are very much encouraged to go up into the garden.

The river and its banks is full of wildlife – dragonflies, dippers, otters, kingfishers, brown trout and grayling all live here. Fly fishing is available for our guests on a 1½ mile beat upstream from the Inn.

We have a good collection of circular walks ranging from 3 to 15 miles length – the most popular takes you to an Iron Age Hill Fort then onto Croft Castle with its 1000 years of history. We also offer a Mortimer Trail package complete with transport, you can walk from Ludlow to Kington over two or three days and see some of the most stunning views in Herefordshire.

With the Riverside Inn as a base you can comfortably visit five golf courses, the Black and White Village Trail, Ludlow, Hereford, houses and gardens, heritage sites, breweries, cider presses, cheese-wrights, visitor centres & country parks

Or just sit by the river.

Enjoy the magic. Richard & Liz, owners for the past 13 years, would love to see you.
